Universities are facing new challenges in 2020 and beyond. Remote learning, budgetary constraints, and renewed attention on diversity are just a few vital change management strategies.
The Administrative Management Council for New York University (NYU) is listening to the diverse range of voices from their workforce to meet some of these challenges. These will be discussed during a live AMA event on October 6th.
If you work in the higher education sector, you have undoubtedly faced many of these challenges. Here’s why you should attend.
Remote learning
Remote learning has taken center stage in education because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This has presented several higher education challenges. Additional support is needed to monitor and address the impact it will have on the more than 1.5 billion students affected by school closures.
Universities are not strangers to e-learning. Some have a dedicated online school, while others offer various degree programs entirely online.
As more colleges and universities are forced to offer all courses online, they will need to reconfigure rules and regulations. Frameworks have been developed to provide a structure for evaluating crucial decisions as the landscape continues to change.
Budgetary constraints
The budgets of colleges and universities have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Institutions who already offer robust online programs will be better equipped for the new e-learning requirements. Those who relied mostly on in-person classes may experience significant difficulties as they implement new change management strategies and online methods.
Colleges and universities are losing money from a lack of dorm and meal fees. Others are concerned about a drop in enrollment due to students who are not ready for the online method. A recent McKinsey survey suggests first-year domestic enrollment of ungraduated students may drop by up to 15%.
Universities will need to plan for all the major and minor changes when reconfiguring budgets, taking advantage of opportunities to save money while strengthening overall morale.
Renewed attention on diversity
Recent events have prompted many universities and colleges to consider how they will address diversity on-campus and in online programs. The aim is to create a positive culture of inclusion, where students feel their voices are being heard.
The power of crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing is the process of engaging a group or crowd to work on a common goal. This goal can involve solving a problem, becoming more efficient, or innovating.
Crowdsourcing is powered by technologies that include social media and specific applications designed to gather ideas. Individuals can contribute to the discussions surrounding higher education, sharing their own professional experiences and expertise.
