During the 2017 hurricane season, Coast Guard leadership quickly realized that lessons learned from previous major emergency events had not resulted in a lasting improvement in Coast Guard operations. Some of these lessons were critical to the safety of victims and Coast Guard responders. These items had not been reached prior to the Deepwater Horizon explosion and not prior to Superstorm Sandy. This frustration led to a “Hurricane Lessons Learned” campaign being launched on CG_Ideas@Work.
