I agree to some extent, but this is not true across the board. Some professors utilize power points in such a way that it enhances their lectures. They also incorporate music and video within the power point itself, like professor Michael Alexander of the history department for example. His power point presentations are not only effective at conveying the material, they are captivating. So this complaint is more of a case by case study than a universal problem.

I totally agree! I wanted to ask about this like 4 years ago. I even seriously considered building one myself but I just don't have the time with all my CS courses. I think I will bring it up during the ACM club. I just need to hear what any SGA reps think about this.

Totally agree. I don't know how people in those nearby buildings can focus with all that noise and mess.

I was here this past summer when it all began. Every so often I could hear a loud buzzzz sound in the wall every day during class in McBryde. From what I read, all this road construction was suppose to have stopped the week after classes started back up. The roads did but then they ripped off the sidewalks!

I agree! we need dining halls that at the very least stay open until 9. I know a lot of people who have classes and meetings in the evenings and their dinner schedules are messed up because of it.

As a former student worker at West End, I can say the hours are like that because VT relies heavily on student workers. Since Blacksburg is one of the rural-est campuses in Virginia, VT wouldn't be able to hire as many non student workers to work in the dining facilities as the other campuses. It was important for us to be able to get home early enough to be able to have enough time to complete papers and assignments as well. West End closes at 8pm and I would normally have gotten home by 9:15-9:30pm. If that was pushed back an extra hour, it would have made my life harder, since I had to work so I could pay my rent and had to deal with being a full time student.

I would suggest if you eat that late, you can always buy your food earlier and eat it later.

As far as I've seen, most classroom lights get turned off overnight in most buildings. As far as hallways and other areas though, it should probably be noted that classes and meeting spaces during the day/evening are not the only times that academic buildings get used. Graduate students and those enrolled in lab/design courses often spend late night/early morning hours working on projects in these buildings, and I hardly believe that they'd consider these lights "unused".

Was at UVa recently. Their bus system is connected online and lets u track where the bus is at that particular time.

Why can't we have something like that here?

Great ideas. Let's all set up a time to meet. I will also include facilities people to see how feasible this is...send me an e-mail at brandoncarroll@vt.edu and we can figure this out.

msmith89, I agree to a certain extent. Space is a big issue on campus, but the University cannot designate space in every building for studying. There is just too much demand. However, SGA is working on making Torgersen 24/7, and we are trying to enhance broadband coverage in the already existing study areas on campus. The University should allow us to have study access in buildings 24/7. If you want to talk more, let's meet up. My e-mail is brandoncarroll@vt.edu. I am here for and because of you.

Thank you,
Brandon
